Michigan Expands Access to Justice With Six New Court-Based Legal Self-Help Centers
Michigan residents now have even greater access to reliable legal information and support with the opening of six new court-based legal self-help centers across the state. These centers, launched in partnership with local district courts and the Michigan Self-Help Center Alliance, offer free tools and resources to help people better understand and navigate civil legal issues.
The new self-help centers are located inside the following district courts:
- Novi District Court (52 1 District Court)
- Romeo District Court (42 1 District Court)
- New Baltimore District Court (42 2 District Court)
- Kalamazoo District Court (8th District Court)
- Wyoming District Court (62A District Court)
- Muskegon District Court (60th District Court)
Each center provides access to public computers, DIY tools to complete court forms, and step-by-step legal information. For the first time in these locations, patrons can also meet with a trained Remote Navigator through live video. Remote Navigator assistance is available Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
These new openings bring the total number of legal self-help center locations in Michigan to more than 70, strengthening a statewide network committed to offering user-friendly, consistent support for court users. The centers help people understand their options, prepare court forms, and connect with trusted online resources, including Michigan Legal Help, the state’s primary source of clear legal information for residents.

Support for these new centers is provided by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office’s Legal Self-Help Grant Program: Technology Implementation Grant, Michigan Legal Help, and local courts. Together, these partners are working to ensure that every Michigan resident has access to the information they need to navigate the civil legal system with confidence.
